PCSX2 Tutorial

Around PCSX2

PCSX2 was the very first PlayStation 2 emulator. Through persistent development, it’s remained the very best one around! Game compatibility is high. It handily comes armed with its plug-ins, which is customized. PCSX2 demands a quick computer so as to run well. You may have trouble using it if you’re utilizing a budget notebook or a Windows tabletcomputer.

With other emulators you can get away with using your computer keyboard . However, with PCSX2 it’s pretty difficult, provided the PlayStation 2 controller’s mini joysticks. I strongly suggest purchasing a gamepad with this emulator.

Do not download PCSX2 from their site

The downloading of PCSX2 in the official homepage hasn’t been updated in years. Rather, you’ll discover the most latest releases of the emulator from this’automated builds’ page.

Intro to plugin system

PlayStation 2 emulation revolves round the plug system. The same system used by PlayStation 1 and N64 emulators. PlayStation emulators are merely the shell of this surgery.

PCSX2 comes armed with plug-ins, so you don’t need to think about downloading them individually and configuring them manually. I want to assess the different types of plug-ins along with you. It is fantastic to be educated with the way the emulator works. Here’s the list of these:

  1. GS – the picture plug-in. This controls the graphics and 3D rendering.
  2. PAD – the controller plug-in. This controls how you control your games; if you use a computer keyboard or a gamepad.
  3. SPU2 – the sound plug. This controls the music and audio effects.
  4. CDVD – the CD/DVD plugin. This controls the scanning of your CDs/DVDs or graphics.
  5. USB – that the USB plug in. This controls USB emulation.
  6. FW – that the firewire plugin.
  7. DEV9 – the disk & Ethernet plug-in. This controls the HDD (hard disk drive) and Ethernet emulation.

Note that you don’t possess to stay with the plug-ins which come with PCSX2. You could find better ones on the market if you Google around.

The BIOS

The PlayStation 2 BIOS is required in order to boot games. This is a separate download after you’ve downloaded PCSX2. Below you may download this BIOS.

Download by right-clicking the download link and proceed to Save Link As. If you don’t see the document extension, consider showing them.

Keep on reading below for what to do next after you get into the BIOS.

Installation

Newer variants of PCSX2 are just standalone apps inside a zip file. Older models of PCSX2 install with a wizard. I’ll explain both scenarios.

Installing the stand alone program (newer versions)

Installation is simple: simply extract PCSX2 from the zip file. Not certain how to extract zip files?

IMPORTANT! PCSX2 has to be set in a frequent folder on your own computer. I recommend Records , Downloads, or create a folder on your desktop. If you put PCSX2 somewhere else on your main C drive, then you might be limiting it to unsubscribe accessibility. Doing so prevents PCSX2 from storing anything.

First Time Configuration + BIOS setup

  1. Open PCSX2 from double-clicking on. If you set up PCSX2 with an install wizard, then you would start it from going to your Start menu (your apps list) and open PCSX2 there.
  2. PCSX2 welcomes you the First Time Configuration display. Click on Next.
  3. The following screen merely reviews the plug-ins which arrive with PCSX2. You don’t have to do anything here. Click on Next.
  4. Next is the BIOS screen. Just click Open in Explorer, as shown below:You’ll be prompted with a”This route does not exist. Create it? ” window. Click Create.
  5. Note the route where the BIOS folder is located. Open that folder up. Download the BIOS if you haven’t previously, sew it, and drag its contents to the BIOS folder. It should look something similar to below:

  6. It’s very important which you match the above screenshot in your end. Don’t put the BIOS files at a sub folder within the BIOS folder!
  7. Click the Refresh list button (circled below).

  8. Click on your preferred country to choose it. Then click Finish.
  9. That is it! PCSX2 is now completely installed and configured.
  10. Preparing the computer keyboard or gamepad
  11. Usually emulators have all of the keyboard keys preconfigured, however, PCSX2’s keys are a bit fresh slate the first time you start it! You don’t have any option but to configure them. Again, I urge you to purchase a gamepad since the PlayStation 2 controller features lots of buttons. Using just the keyboard is an annoying experience.
